What better way is there to teach your children, staff, church or school group a sense of coming together than via community service? The Community Service Program is a year-round effort to allow people to make a direct difference. Here are just a few examples of Community Service ideas:
- Make a financial contribution and check with your company to see if they have a matching gifting program or a foundation we can apply to for a grant.
- Recycle bottles and cans anytime of year, turn them in to cash and buy items the Project needs while helping the environment.
- If you know how to knit or have a knitting group, buy some yarn and make warm baby blankets, baby clothes, hats, scarves, mittens to keep babies and children warm during New England's harsh winters.
- Individuals, families, companies, schools, church groups, scouts groups, neighborhoods and many other groups can have a community service drive anytime of year. Contact us and we can provide a list of needed items each week throughout the year.
- Get a group of friends or family together, buy warm blanket material and make a few no-sew blankets. We have instructions and it's a fun way to help families keep warm!
- Collect coins at camp, school, church, etc. Just put a can out with your goals, have your friends and family help you roll and then go out and buy items that are needed.
- Hold a theme party: Birthday Party, Baby Shower, Beach Party, Holiday Party, etc. Celebrate as you normally would and at the same time collect gifts for the Project.
- Host a fundraiser for the Project: spaghetti dinner, sock hop, fashion show, bake sale, Tupperware party, Jewelry, make-up, car wash, wine tasting, kitchen party.
- Have your children collect gently used clean medium and large size baskets. We use these for our very large year-round Basket of love program.
- Talk to your local schools about coming to the project for a field trip and they can do community service work while they are here. This gives children a first hand account of a charity and how we help families directly each day.
- Do a new book drive
- When doing school shopping for your family have your child pick out an extra backpack and school supplies to donate to the Project.
- When you go grocery shopping, pack an extra bag of groceries
- October through March, collect warm blankets, warm flannel sheets, warm pj's, zip up sleepers, warm slippers, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, warm winter boots and warm winter coats.
- Have a Teen Party - collect gift cards or items a teen would like and make theme baskets to go directly to a teen.
- Help a Senior anytime of year. Receive a list from us, go with your family or children or group and make a direct difference.
- Children who want to help with safety can do safety kits year round. Collect and donate first aid kits, flashlights, blankets, batteries and candles.
- Collect new kids' sneakers anytime of year.
